The Webster Volunteer Fire Department has announced that the Firemen’s Carnival, originally scheduled for July 15-18 this year, has been canceled. The carnival has been the department’s single largest fundraising event for years.
According to the department’s announcement, the carnival has been canceled for the health and safety of Webster residents and surrounding communities in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The department says the decision to cancel the carnival was not made lightly. In over 80 years, the department has never had to cancel the popular Webster event.
“We know that our event is a staple to the Webster community as well as for local business in our area,” says the Webster Volunteer Fire Dept.
The department asks the community to consider donating to its upcoming annual fund drive or via its website (www.donatewvfd.org).
“As a community, we will get through this together and will be eager to see everyone again for the 2021 Firemen’s Carnival,” says the department.
The carnival isn’t the only popular Webster event to be canceled due to the pandemic. The annual Memorial Day Parade, which would have taken place next week, was also canceled, as was the WASPS Annual Model Train Show, which was originally scheduled in March.
