The remaining schedule for the town budget process is delayed

***
The Town of Webster recently shared an updated schedule of the remaining essential dates in the 2021 budget process, and it looks like things are a bit delayed compared to past years.
In past years, the town has typically had its preliminary budget published in the local newspaper, the Webster Herald, sometime towards the end of September. Residents could then review the proposed budget side-by-side with the previous year's budget so they could attend the town's budget public hearing with any questions they may have.
Originally, the preliminary 2021 budget was scheduled to be published on September 9, 2020. However, the town recently updated its schedule with a new tentative publishing date of October 8, 2020 - a bit later than usual. A public hearing would then follow on October 15.
The delay is likely due to challenges brought on by COVID-19, as well as the new chain of command getting used to the ropes. The 2021 town budget is the first since Tom Flaherty was elected Webster Town Supervisor, so there is likely a bit of a learning curve.
The legal deadline for final budget adoption is December 17, 2020.
Below is the town's updated schedule for the remainder of the 2021 budget process.
