Caller reports multiple people and employees at BJ’s in Webster were not wearing masks

All New York residents are now required to wear masks in public

Monroe County Fire Wire recently tweeted that a call was received reporting multiple people and employees were not wearing masks at BJ’s in Webster.

The report comes shortly after Gov. Andrew Cuomo issued an executive order mandating that people must now wear masks or face coverings in public in the state’s efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19. However, the mandate does not officially take effect until tonight at 8 p.m.

The mandate says anyone in a public space where they are unable to maintain a social distance of at least six feet must wear some kind of face covering.

The order also requires anyone operating or riding on a public transit must wear a mask or face covering as well. This includes those driving or riding in for-hire vehicles such as Uber, taxis, etc.

The mandate will remain in effect indefinitely.

For those who don’t have masks, Cuomo says people can use any type of cloth face covering, such as scarfs or T-shirts.

Local law enforcement is responsible for enforcing the mask requirement.

Although there is no penalty for violating the mask order at this time, there may be one forthcoming, depending on how well New York residents adhere to the order.
