The Rochester Garlic Festival has officially been canceled in light of COVID-19. Just like the Webster Fireman’s Carnival, Summer Celebration, and Waterfront Art Festival, the garlicky, local event that Webster residents have come to love has made the tough decision to cancel to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

The garlic festival, which typically benefits the Challenger Miracle Field, was originally scheduled for September 12 and 13th.

“While we are so sad to miss out on a fantastic festival, all the garlicky goodness and exceptional live music, we had to make the decision to cancel the event for the safety of our community,” the Rochester Garlic Festival stated in a Facebook post.

Some people have expressed frustration with the fact that so many local events are being canceled, especially for outdoor events where “everyone can social distance,” per one person’s Facebook comment. Others agree that canceling these events is safer for the community as the country continues battling the virus.

The festival’s organizers say they will be in communication with the public regarding the festival’s 2021 date.
