Webster, NY - One of the best ways to stay up-to-date on Town of Webster and Village of Webster topics is by participating in town and village board meetings. But with the pandemic still ongoing, most of these meetings are closed to in-person attendance.

So how can you know what matters are being discussed within each government entity? How can you stay informed?

The answer: virtual participation.

Each government entity has its own ways for Webster residents to virtually participate in board meetings to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Town of Webster

Regular Webster Town Board Meetings and Town Workshops

The Webster Town Board meets for regular meetings the first and third Thursdays of the month at 7:30 p.m. and workshop meetings the second and fourth Thursdays of the month at 5:30 p.m.

The meetings are streamed via the town’s website at http://ci.webster.ny.us/civicmedia

When you get to this page, select “Town Board Meetings.”

You can also watch these meetings on Spectrum Cable Channel 1303.

To participate in these meetings virtually, there are two viable options:

Town Planning Board and Zoning Board Meetings

Webster Town Planning Board meetings are held the first and third Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. Town Zoning Board of Appeals meetings are held the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m.

The meetings are streamed via the town’s website at http://ci.webster.ny.us/civicmedia

When you get to this page, you should see the Zoning Board meeting or Planning Board meeting already streaming live or on live standby until the meeting officially begins.

You can also watch these meetings on Spectrum Cable Channel 1303.

To participate in these meetings virtually, there are two viable options:

  • Submit your comments to Planning-Zoning@ci.webster.ny.us no later than the day prior to the meeting.

  • Call in at (585) 872-7011 during the meeting when the public comment portion of the meeting starts.

  • Submit your comments during the meeting via the Town of Webster Facebook or Twitter pages.

You can view documents for the projects being discussed at the meetings and submit comments prior to the meeting at ci.webster.ny.us/550/Upcoming-Projects-Planning-Zoning

Village Zoning Board of Appeals Meetings

The Village of Webster recently consolidated its Planning and Zoning Boards into one Board, so the Zoning Board of Appeals also covers Planning Board items.

Village Zoning Board meetings are held the third Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. These meetings are open to the public. Attendees are required to wear masks.

Meetings can also be viewed via live stream on the Village of Webster NY Facebook page.

Questions should be directed to the Deputy Village Clerk, Jo O’Neill, at joneill@villageofwebster.com or (585) 265-3770.

***NOTE: The above information is subject to change depending on each government entity. Check the town and village websites and social media pages regularly for the most updated information about virtual participation.***

Town and village business does not stop during the pandemic, so it’s important to stay informed about what is going on in your community and how it may affect you. (And if you’re not already tech-savvy, now is the perfect time to learn!)

If you get to attend a Town Board meeting you should certainly be careful to wear a mask because the Supervisor and Councilmen Cahill don't feel it is necessary to do so. You can watch them on cable TV station 1303 not wearing a mask, at meetings, great leadership!!
