Frate administered lifesaving bleeding control measures to a victim struck by a vehicle

Webster Officer Tessa Frate was recently awarded the U of R Trauma Gold Star for administering lifesaving bleeding control measures on a trauma victim.

According to the Webster Police Department, on June 20, 2020, Officer Frate responded to a call for the report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle. Four pedestrians had been struck by a vehicle and thrown down an embankment.

Upon climbing down the embankment and evaluating the victims’ injuries, Officer Frate found one of the victims to have a serious leg injury. To stop the bleeding, Officer Frate applied her own tourniquet to the victim's leg.

This action made it possible to move the victim to the roadway where she was then taken to the hospital via ambulance.

Webster PD says the victim suffered severe injuries to her leg, as well as other bodily injuries.

“Due to the quick thinking and actions taken by Officer Frate, the victim is alive today and slowly recovering from her injuries,” Webster PD shared in a Facebook post.
