Town of Webster closes ALL town playgrounds to help flatten the curve

Playgrounds will be closed to the public until further notice

The Webster Town Board issued a public statement today announcing that all town playgrounds are officially CLOSED, in order to increase social distancing efforts during COVID-19.

“We care deeply about the health and safety of your family,” the statement reads. “For that reason, beginning today, all Town playgrounds will be closed to the public until further notice.”

The town playgrounds that are closed include First Responders Park, Finn Park, Ridgecrest Park, Ridge Park at Webster Town Hall, and Kent Park.

“The playgrounds and basketball courts don’t lend themselves to the social distancing measure that we have all been advised to follow,” the statement explains, “therefore we are doing this to discourage these communal gatherings.”

Recognizing that residents still need to get their physical exercise regularly, the town board suggested taking advantage of the more than 1,000 acres of Open Space and trails located throughout the Town of Webster.

“It is our intent to keep those open for your enjoyment,” says the town board in its statement.

However, in all situations (not only with the Open Space and walking trails), the Webster Town Board urges residents to remember the following:

• Stay local and keep visits short.

• Visit in small groups and limit to immediate members of your household.

• Maintain safe distances in areas where people tend to congregate, such as parking lots and trails.
