The Town of Webster shared an important update earlier today regarding payments of real property taxes. In light of COVID-19, Monroe County has issued an Emergency Order that prohibits people from making in-person payments, so as to limit person-to-person exposure as much as possible.
In addition, recognizing the current financial challenges people are facing, the county has extended the due date from March 31, 2020 to April 30, 2020. This extension will help “mitigate potential consequences on taxpayers,” the town’s announcement explained.
2020 real property taxes paid on or before April 30, 2020 will be subject to a 3% interest charge, NOT 4.5%.
This clarification helps “ensure uniform application across the county.”
Only 3% interest will be received on ALL payments through April 30, 2020 at this time.
The Town of Webster strongly encourages residents to make their payments online, not only due to social distancing measures, but also because there are no additional user fees when paying online, and it includes an instant receipt.
Residents can go to the Monroe County website (www.monroecounty.gov) to check their balances or make a payment. Simply click on “View / Pay Taxes.”
Residents can also pay taxes via check mailed through the U.S. Mail or by dropping it in the drop box in the front vestibule of Webster Town Hall.
