WCSD gets creative to keep students physically active

COVID-19 isn’t stopping Webster schools from teaching

COVID-19 brought about a slew of changes (that very few were prepared for) in just a matter of days. With the pandemic rising as school was in session, educators everywhere have had to change up their method of teaching with very little preparation time.

In addition to putting together learning materials for students to work with from home, Webster Central School District educators have been taking their creativity to new levels across social media to keep their students engaged.

One of the biggest challenges facing students during quarantine is a lack of physical activity. So the district and Webster PE teachers have been frequently posting videos and photos encouraging students to get creative with the way they exercise.

For example, this Klem South PE instructor posted a video challenging her students to do 3 jumping jacks, then 2 water bottle flips, and repeat for 1 minute. She demonstrates the full workout (or attempted to, until a little friend made it a tad difficult to complete successfully).

Schools are also sending encouraging messages to families who post about their successful PE ventures, such as Spry Middle School’s PE retweets with the photos below.

And Klem North Elementary PE initiated the #HappyClimbingChallenge to keep their students active and having fun.

It isn’t just the middle and elementary schools upping their PE game. The high schools are encouraging their students physically active as well. Webster Schroeder Strength shared the following push-up tutorial on Twitter for its athletic students who want to get their #PushUpChallenge ON.

Schroeder Strength has been sharing lengthy home workouts as well.

The high schools are also sharing videos and photos of their student athletes keeping up their sport practice at home. Webster Thomas High School, for example, shared a tweet of Titan lacrosse students playing catch outside during quarantine.

Not even COVID-19 is enough to keep the #OneWebster spirit down. Stay active and healthy, Webster!
